Junet Mohamed is a Kenyan politician and is the current Member of Parliament for Suna East in Migori County. He is also serving as the National Assembly minority leader and is the first Kenyan Somali to clutch a seat in Nyanza region. He is a member of the ODM political party led by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He was born on 25th October 1977 in Migori County where he grew up.Junet was born to the family of Sheikh Nuh Mohammed who hails from Mandera County before relocating to Migori where he started a business. His family is all Muslim and he was the second born in the family.Mohamed started his schooling at Migori Primary School before proceeding to Lenana School for his secondary education. He later on joined University of Nairobi and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
He was formerly the Councilor for Migori town having been appointed in 2003.His official political career began in 2013, when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Suna East with the ODM party ticket. He became the first Kenyan Somali to be elected in the Nyanza region owing to the fact that he grew up there and had very many connections and friends.He was again reelected in the August 2017 elections. Later on, he became the minority leader for the National Assembly and is very close to the ODM party leader Raila Odinga and to H.E Uhuru Kenyatta. He recently revealed that his secret to avoiding political trifles and impeachment is staying close to the leader Raila Odinga.The MP is happily married to Deka Jamaa who is also a Muslim and they are blessed with five kids.
Junet is one of the members of the National Assembly who want to action take against Deputy President William Ruto accusing him of disrespecting the laws of Kenya and inciting violence. They further suggest that the Deputy President William Samoei Ruto be summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI to answer queries related to his frequent visits to Uganda without authorization. Yesterday 4th August 2021 Mr Junet led a team of ODM Members who addressed the world in which they vehemently spoke against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Uganda describing the connection of Ruto to the NRM as something disastrous to Kenya as a country.
However members of the National assembly allied to Deputy President William Ruto transhed the allegations raised by Junet and described them as Hate speech and Propaganda of the ODM and yesterday top government lawmakers allied to deputy president Dr William Ruto flocked the National Assembly building dressed in UDA related attires. Government lawmakers such as Aisha Jumwa, Sylvanus Osoro, Gladys Sholei, Nixon Korir and Millicent Omanga attended the parliamentary seating today dressed in United Democratic Alliance (UDA) related colors similar to the color of the ruling National Resistance Movement in Uganda.It has been revealed that the main reason why the above mentioned lawmamkers decided in the UDA related colors were also attending the swearing in ceremony of the new elected member of parliament of Kiambaa constituency. John Wanjiku Njuguna was elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the just concluded by elections in Kiambaa where by the Jubilee party candidate Kariri Njama was defeated.
