The US Choice to host Afghan Refugees in Uganda is a vote of Confidence in President Museveni. The Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo and Veteran Journalist Andrew Mwenda stated while appearing on NBS Television Talkshow.
Uganda is in discussion with the United States of America towards adopting a common position to temporarily host 2,000 Afghan refugees at the request of the United States- Gen Jeje Odongo Minister of Foreign Affairs as confirmed as he appeared on a local talk show program of NBS Television Station 19th August 2021.
We are proud and we are grateful that our country has for long dedicated itself to serve human kind and Uganda is hosting over 1 Million refugees- Gen Odong further stated. The United States of America considered our records of human rights promotion as well as our historical commitment to democracy and good governance. Uganda is an important ally of the United States in combating Terrorism in the Great Lakes Region of Africa-Gen Jeje Odongo stated.
Because of the rigorous Immigration process to be settled in the USA, the US Government deemed it necessary to first host the good afghan refugees in Uganda for a short period of time. The hosting of these afghan refugees in Uganda will come with numerous benefits including attracting tourists, boosting our Foreign Direct Investment, promoting the country’s names in supporting refugees and by the way this is not only a duty of every nation but its Godly-Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeje Odongo stated.

Mwenda used the platform to declare Col Dr Kiiza Besigye and National Unity Platform Leader Bobi wine popularly known as Robert Kyagulanyi as very intolerant Leader who believe in violence and reject divergent views.He however credited Democratic Party Leader Nobert Mao, Alliance for National Transformation President Gen Mugisha Muntu,Hon Okum Reagan and Prof Ogenga latigo.
Esther Anyakun, Uganda’s state minister for relief, disaster preparedness and refugees, says President Yoweri Museveni told her to make preparations to host 2,000 refugees from Afghanistan.
Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi Minister of Information Communication and National Guidance said that Uganda acted at the request of the United States government and the process to host the proposed 2000 afghan refugees is ongoing.
Esther Anyakun, Uganda’s state minister for relief, disaster preparedness and refugees, says President Yoweri Museveni told her to make preparations to host 2,000 refugees from Afghanistan. They have requested us to host 2,000 refugees. We are expecting them to be brought in shifts of 500. U.N. High Commission for Refugees Uganda representative Joel Boutroue also confirms the decision to receive the Afghan refugees. And what we are doing, is we are preparing in terms of, with the office of the Prime Minister receiving them at the airport, lodging them. And then there will be all this, screening, testing.
And then we see the next step, depending on what, for example Ugandan government and maybe other governments, in particular the U.S. government want to do, if ever they want to resettle them- Esther Anyakun stated.
As the Chief of Diplomatic Affairs in Uganda, Gen Jeje Odongo pointed out the fact that thousands of Afghans are fleeing the country after Taliban fighters announced Sunday they had entered Kabul and took control of the presidential palace and why would Uganda really be ungodly and reject poor afgan refugees from being hosted in Uganda for a period of time. Its important to note that president Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan, reportedly saying he wanted to avoid bloodshed, signaling the end of a 20-year conflict.
The Taliban fighters declared the war in Afghanistan over, prompting tens of thousands to flee the fighters’ hard line Islamist rule.
